It was a sad day to wake up and see the live videos posted online of friends and owners businesses go up in flames!
Thank the Lord that no one was hurt or injured!
Helen and I were there on Friday talking with Barry our friend that owns One Love that and many of the other restaurants we have frequented so many times in the almost 15 years we have lived here.
The fire looked as though it started at Campo kitchen at the end of the block then it went through the buildings like wildfire leaving nothing but burnt and smouldering timbers.
The local fire department could do nothing we dont know if this was due to faulty equipment or a lack of personnel?
The time fire trucks came from Sanchez it was too late, they could do no more than damp down the remains.
The Mosquito art bar on teh other side of the road was destroyed and the Mosquito rooftop bar Gia and Sergio restaurant all took damage along with cables for electric, internet and TV.

Its a tragedy to see the Pueblo de Pescadores destroyed again, the last time was in 2012 when a fire ripped through the original place.
There was a lot of talk about it not being rebuilt then but it was given special status by teh then President and was built.
This time there are again people saying it should not be rebuilt some are saying it should be not built of wood again.
i think what most people agree on is that whatever is built it must have some sort of sprinkler or water hose system, it was criminal that a place next to the ocean did not have a pump and hoses that could tap into the endless supply of ocean water.

Its a massive impact on the owners and the staff they employed although I understand the businesses were insured.
There has been a page set up by Rebeca Lee to help pay those people that lost their jobs.

Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic.- Sixteen businesses were reduced to ashes because of the fire that this Saturday devoured the Pueblo de Pescadores tourist area in Las Terrenas, northeastern Samaná province.
The original buildings were destroyed by a fire in 2012 and rebuilt. According to many neighbors, the fire could have been set intentionally.
Two other establishments were affected, Fire Department official, Carlos Santos, told Diario Libre.
The Pueblo de Pescadores, located on the beach, offered varied gastronomy and was an important source of jobs for the municipality.
Lets hope and pray that teh work to rebuild gets underway with some urgency and that we can all enjoy eating and drinking in what is a part of all our lives that live or visit Las Terrenas.
