Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic-based carrier Pawa will start flights to Jamaica in late 2017, an initiative sparked by the visit by that country’s prime minister Andrew Holness last week, invited by president Danilo Medina.

During one of Holness’ meetings, both Dominican and Jamaican business leaders urged the two leaders to open Kingston-Santo Domingo flights.

As of Tue. Pawa had yet to announce the start date of the flights and the exact frequency wasn’t specified, but a company source indicated that the route would start operating in the last quarter of 2017.

Local media report that Pawa would become the first airline to fly to the capitals of the Greater Antilles’ five countries, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, with Santo Domingo as its hub.
