Baggage Claim Information – AZS

Baggage Claim is located immediately after the Immigrations area, at Customs area.

If your baggage has been delayed or damaged, it is important to make a baggage claim with a JetBlue crewmember while you’re at the airport.

If you need to make the claim once you’ve left the airport, please call the JetBlue Baggage Service Office at the airport you flew into within four hours after arrival.

If you’re following up on a baggage claim, Central Baggage Services can be reached from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. MT Monday through Friday and from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at 1-866-538-5438.

Checked Baggage Requirements for Flights to/from the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago

Customers checking baggage for travel to/from the Dominican Republic, Haiti or Trinidad & Tobago must follow the following guidelines:

  • Each customer may check a total of two (2) bags, first checked bag free of charge.
  • Each bag must NOT exceed 62 inches (157.48 centimeters) in overall dimensions (length + width + height) and CANNOT exceed 50 pounds (22.73 kilos).
  • Additional baggage and bags that exceed the overall dimensions or weight WILL NOT be allowed onboard flights to/from the Dominican Republic*, Haiti or Trinidad & Tobago.
    • *Additional baggage will be accepted on flights to/from La Romana, Dominican Republic
  • Boxes WILL NOT be allowed on any international flight.
    • Non-hazardous items may be packed in checked baggage; however, JetBlue will not be liable damage to any fragile items packed within a checked bag (i.e. televisions, electronics, etc.).

Baggage dimensions are determined by adding the length, width, and height together.

Humanitarian organizations transporting supplies will be subject to the same baggage allowances and guidelines as other customers.

Samaná El Catey does not board using a jetbridge. Customers will board and deplane via airstairs.

Our ticket counter is located on the far right of the terminal and is open during the following hours:

We recommend you arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to departure. Avoid delays by checking for traffic alerts, and allow enough time to go through security screening, particularly during holidays and peak travel days. Please note, JetBlue has cutoff times for baggage check in, and also for check in at the departure gate; JetBlue will not be responsible for expenses incurred due to late check in.

To get through security you will need to check in at the ticket counter and receive your boarding pass. Our flights depart out of Gate A1.

Documents required for travel vary according to citizenship, residency, age (for minors), length of stay, purpose of visit, student status, etc. Please check for specific requirements for the country, or countries, you are visiting to make sure you have the correct documents.

We will not be liable for any charges incurred for baggage that was checked late, nor will we be liable for delivery or compensation for late checked baggage.

Any customer not onboard, even if they have checked in and received a boarding pass, may be denied boarding and will not be entitled to denied boarding compensation.

Check-in & Pick up Info for Unaccompanied Minors – AZS

The Dominican Republic has strict requirements concerning the travel of minors (persons under the age of 18) to/from the Dominican Republic. Any customer under the age of 18 who is unaccompanied, traveling with someone other than both parents or legal guardians, or who is traveling with only one parent or legal guardian, should contact the Dominican Republic Consulate in the United States or the Dominican Republic Ministry of Foreign Affairs for entry/exit requirements.

Photo identification is required for both parties who drop off and pick up an unaccompanied minor. Unaccompanied minors will not be accepted without the guardian’s photo ID.

When dropping off the unaccompanied minor, the parent/guardian may NOT leave the airport until the following criteria are met:

  • the parent/guardian has a signed copy of the UMNR form
  • the UMNR is onboard the aircraft
  • the parent/guardian’s name, address and cell phone number are all documented on the minor’s reservation.

In the event of a gate return, a JetBlue crewmember will contact the parent/guardian so that he/she can immediately return to the airport to meet their minor. Please note, the parent/guardian must request a gate pass at the airport ticket counter to pick up their minor at the departure gate.

When picking up an unaccompanied minor, you may meet them in the arrivals area in the main Terminal. Please arrive at the airport no later than 30 minutes before the scheduled arrival.

The child will only be released to the person indicated on the unaccompanied minor form or on the reservation and that person must present their government issued photo ID.

Directions to AZS

from Samaná

Take the main road to the west, towards Nagua until you get to the community of El Catey, the airport entrance is on the right before the toll.

from Nagua

Take the main road to the southwest towards Samaná, the airport entrance is to the left after the toll station.

from Santo Domingo

Head east on DR3 – Las Americas Highway, after about 10 KM running by the shore take the left side exit ramp that will take you an underpass, after it make a left then you are at the start of DR7 – Samaná Motorway, take a right and once on the Samaná Motorway there is a first toll within the first KM, this Highway is straight to Samaná, it can be 2 hours drive and you will pass a total of 3 tolls in this Motorway, after the end of the Motorway it turns into a regular motorway and must turn right, keep to the right and after passing the 4th and last toll turn left and when the road splits in two (Y) keep left and this is the entrance to the airport, from the beginning there are road signs conveniently placed and the Motorway is a pleasant drive, however it gets mountainous when going through National Park Los Haitises and caution should be exercised in this area.

Traveling to the Dominican Republic with Pets / Service & Emotional Support Animals

Cats and dogs are required to have the following upon arrival in the Dominican Republic:

The animals must be accompanied by a health certificate issued and signed by a licensed veterinarian.

  • The animal was examined within 30 days prior to departure and found to be free of any infectious diseases, and treated for external and internal parasites.
  • The animal was vaccinated against rabies. (The rabies vaccination Certificate should include date of vaccination, established period of immunity, product name and serial number.)

Upon arrival ask to speak to the animal control person who will review your veterinarian certificates and fill in the official pet entry permission form required at a cost of approximately US $10.

Terminal information when arriving from New York’s JFK

When arriving from the Dominican Republic, you will arrive JFK at Terminal 4, receive your baggage and proceed through Customs and Immigrations.

If you are making a connection you will then re-check your bags at the re-check counter in Terminal 4 and continue on to Terminal 6.

You may get from Terminal 4 to Terminal 6 via AirTrain free of charge.
