I hope this newsletter finds you your families and loved ones all well and keeping safe from this life changing situation we all find ourselves in!
|
I want to let you all know what the current situation is here in Las Terrenas and Samana and in the Dominican Republic as a whole.
|
I congratulate the President his government the local authorities the Police and Military along with all key workers and the people of this country.
|
The measures have gone to phase II which includes the opening of most shops and essential businesses, this does not include the tourist sector such as restaurants, bars, hotels or rental property. The country wide curfew has been relaxed and is from 8pm to 5am.
|
|
It is Compulsory to wear a mask in public and all gatherings, public events are still not allowed.
|
Beaches are still closed apart from walking or exercising on them.
|
|
Travel between towns and provinces is restricted with road blocks and the main highways being closed.
|
As a result the cases and deaths seem to be limited to the high density cities.
|
|
Las Terrenas has most of its shops and businesses open although people are still self isolating and in the main staying at home.
|
|
We are getting national tourists from the capital which i observed this weekend, it seems they think the rules don't apply as many were seen using the beaches.
|
It was good to see the local police enforce the rules and remove them from the beaches.
|
We are working from home and continue to support our staff who are in quarantine and not able to work.
|
Our construction projects are back and running and good progress is being made on the new houses we are building.
|
We are still selling properties mainly in the new developments and continue to receive many daily enquiries, I think some people are looking at life style changes and a safer place to live!
|
|
In Las Terrenas Food and all other supplies are in good supply we have not seen any panic buying or shortages of any items.
|
Although the restaurants are closed a lot are supplying take away food and utalising the delivery service Komida
|
The local government are disinfecting the streets and the Police are enforcing the rules, it seems only trapped European tourists seem to not understand with several elderly couples getting arrested for being on the closed beaches.
|
Life is good for most people in Las Terrenas with the community helping those in need its wonderful to be part of this town.
|
You may see that airlines are advertising flights the government will be allowing flights on July 1st not before!
|

I would like to just offer some advice to those of you looking to come to Las Terrenas looking for property.
Please be aware that due to the busy rental demands especially on the weekends viewing property on Saturday is difficult.
Sunday is almost impossible as developments are closed and getting staff to open up is hard as Sunday is their only days holiday.
So please ensure that you look at coming in the week and allowing at least 3 or 4 days to see the town its places of interest and property.
Please ask us to send you our Hotel recommendation list and transfer and car hire details.
